CECILE CASSISTA
Councillor
At Large
Cecile Cassista was first elected as Councillor at Large in 2012 and is currently serving her third term. She has also served as Deputy Mayor from 2013-2014 and from 2016-2017. For her work on Council, Cecile brings many years of public service experience, working in Manitoba as a union contract negotiator with the Canadian Auto Workers Union (UNIFOR), serving on the Manitoba Labour Board as the representative for labour and on community boards with the Manitoba child care Council and United Way Board.
She is known in the community for her passion for women’s and seniors’ rights. Cecile is the former Executive Director of the Coalition for Seniors and also co-founder of the New Brunswick Coalition for Seniors Nursing Home Residents’ Rights. She has also advocated for women’s rights and has served as Vice President of the National Action Committee on the status for women.
A champion of her community, Cecile sees her role as representing the interests and concerns of residents in areas such as immigration, residential expansion and economic growth.
When she is not busy working to improve the lives of residents, Cecile enjoys exercising, gardening, networking and travel. She continues to be an active volunteer and dedicates her time to the Riverview Lions Volunteer Seniors’ Club.
