B.C. ombudsperson seeks action on seniors' care - January 7, 2010

B.C. Ombudsperson Kim Carter has released the first of two planned reports on her investigation of seniors’ care launched last August. One of her key recommendations is the creation of a Bill of Rights for residents which the government has already addressed in legislation (Bill 17) passed last November. So far, the government has only signalled its “intent” to accept many of the other recommendations in her report. This includes creation of a single website with information on the performance of residential care facilities. However, Health Services Minister says it will be operational by the fall. Report at
