Seniors' advocate calls for independent agency to investigate and prosecute cases of abuse
Cecile Cassista, executive director of the Coalition For Nursing Home Residents' Rights in New Brunswick, said the booklet is a positive step forward but the provincial government needs to do more to prevent abuse and, punish the abusers.
She believes the government should form an independent agency -- similar to the Ombudsman's office -- that would investigate the complaints and prosecute abusers while protecting the confidentiality of the victims and those who come forward.
