Don't increase nursing home fees - Telegraph Journal February 1, 2011

I was shocked to read in the Telegraph-Journal of Jan. 28 that the Tories of David Alward are pondering a hike to nursing home fees.

Apparently, Social Development Minister Sue Stultz has indicated very recently that the provincial government is considering a hike to nursing home fees.

At present, the amount seniors pay for nursing home care is based solely on income. It does not touch life savings or their assets. And it should remain as such.

Moreover, the daily rate for nursing home residents should not be increased. Apparently, the government will release its plans regarding seniors in nursing homes in the legislature on March 22, which is budget day.

Write or call your MLA before budget day. They listen to seniors. This government should not forget the real strength of the Grey Power.
